Get ready for the Technology, Colleges and Community (TCC) 24th annual conference! This is the conference where all the masters and PhD students of the UH Manoa LTEC program present their final projects. So, at this time in 2021, I’ll be presenting my master’s project. ![]()
This will be first online conference! I’m pretty excited because generally speaking, conferences are fun, exciting, and very informative (at least the ones I’ve been to). Being that this one is online, I expect this will be a new and different experience because it’ll be over the internet. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about an online conference is the inevitable technical difficulties. Even at live conferences, a lot of time and effort is spent on making sure the technology and equipment that will be used during presentations are working property and smoothly. I can just imagine an online conference can be twice as difficult because presenters are using their own technology, presentation applications must be compatible with the all computers, internet speeds and connectivity may vary based on attendees’ location, and there are no technicians to help troubleshoot problems.
Another thing that might be different is the networking, or possibly lack thereof. I love conferences because you can physically meet the researcher or presenter, therefore you can put a face to the name. Additionally, they can put a face to your name. I think at an online conferences, networking will require a little more work to network through social media. For some, this might be unfamiliar or uncomfortable because they either do not have a social media presence or they don’t like the idea of social media.
I will be presenting a project that I did with two other classmates for my Virtual Realties class during the Fall of 2018. We’ll just be presenting the Solar System virtual world simulation that we created in OpenSim. I’m exciting and a little nervous but I think we got this; it’s going to be just like our final presentation that we presented for the course. NBD ![]()
For now, I think these are the two things that I can definitely expect out of TCC 2019. I’m looking forward to listening to my fellow classmates’ projects and getting an idea of how my final project presentation should be.
